Julie Ginsburg, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M. (NCCAOM), MSOM
Julie Ginsburg is a nationally board-certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine through the NCCAOM and a California-licensed Acupuncturist. She specializes in promoting resilience—supporting patients recovering from chronic illness, trauma, and pain—while empowering them to embrace wellness and restore balance. With over a decade of experience in hospital settings, busy clinics, and large medical practices, Julie is a versatile and compassionate practitioner dedicated to creating a positive, collaborative healing environment. Julie has a gift for explaining complex scientific concepts in practical, relatable ways, enabling patients to reframe patterns and adopt habits that align with their health goals. She views her role as an Acupuncturist as a facilitator of the body’s own conversation between mind and body—equal parts artist and scientist—directing energy and resources toward healing with both precision and wonder. Her grounded, gentle, and heart-centered approach makes her a trusted ally in her patients' journey to well-being. A native of Chicago, Julie has called Oakland home since 1998 after falling in love with the San Francisco Bay Area’s natural beauty and cultural diversity. She studied Microbiology and Chemistry at San Francisco State University, graduating with honors and completing the pre-health professional curriculum. Her early scientific career included research in genetics and molecular biology, supported by a National Science Foundation grant, as well as work in pharmaceutical R&D and clinical trials for neurological conditions such as Parkinson's, stroke, Alzheimer's, MS, and migraines. Julie took a hiatus from the workforce and stayed home with her children for 8 years while they were young. Highlights included being featured on 2 Bay Area garden tours, teaching science as a FOSS volunteer and creating a school garden at her children’s public school. She raised chickens for 20 years and had training in Permaculture from Merritt Community College planting many fruit trees and shrubs in her organic garden. While her children are grown now they continue to be a big part of her life. Julie enjoys making and sharing delicious food, wine, travel and photography. She leads an active life by attending concerts, dancing, hiking, reading, playing games, spending time in nature and visiting art museums. Julie’s path to holistic medicine began with her own experience of healing from heartbreak through acupuncture. Moved by its profound effects on both body and mind, she embraced a calling that has since shaped her life and career. She earned her Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, graduating with honors in 2014, and was licensed in California in 2015. In 2019, she earned national board certification as a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. Deeply influenced by both neuroscience and traditional wisdom, Julie integrates Eastern and Western understandings of the nervous system and fascia into her practice. She has studied and practiced Medical Qigong since 2010, completed teacher training through the Yangsheng
Qigong Immersion Program with Susannah Stason and the late Dr. Suzanne Friedman, and enjoys prescribing Qigong as a fun and accessible way to strengthen the mind-body connection. Julie is also deeply committed to social justice and cultural sensitivity. She strives to create a clinic environment where everyone feels welcome, respected, and safe—free from judgment, and honored for their lived experience. She sees each patient as the expert in their own health journey and is honored to partner with them in healing. In her previous role as Senior Acupuncturist at IPM/Boomerang Healthcare, Julie launched a virtual wellness program during the COVID-19 pandemic. For five years, she divided her time between clinics in Oakland and Walnut Creek while teaching wellness classes on Zoom. These classes combined current chronic pain neuroscience and cognitive-behavioral strategies, offering practical tools for building habits that support resilience and recovery. Julie finds joy and renewal in nature, in connection, and by being of service. These touchstones sustain her energy, inspire her work, and deepen her ability to show up fully for her patients present in body, mind, and spirit.
